We sent Paolo Balsamo to the amazing La Bagnaia Golf & Spa Resort Siena, Curio Collection by Hilton to experience what was once a medieval village in the heart of the Tuscany countryside to shoot some photos and create a Siena Travel Guide. It’s full of unique tips and local secrets, just for you.

The traditions and customs of Siena’s neighborhoods are incredibly unique and an attraction in themselves.

My Perfect Day

What to do in a place like this if you only have 24 hours?

Siena, Italy

A perfect day in Siena starts with a good Italian breakfast consisting of croissants, pastries, espresso, and cappuccinos. The place to go is definitely Blandis Café & Wine Bar. Their cappuccinos are the best.

Next, would be exploring the old town and its beautiful landmarks, sights, culture, and charm. Just wander around, explore the alleyways and get lost. Then, a glass wine at one of the many cafes in the Piazza del Campo. It is one of the most gorgeous squares in all of Italy. For wine try the Chianti Classico a Tuscan symbol.

After relaxing for a while, get a delicious ice cream at the Gelateria Venchi and enjoy it while waiting for the sun to set behind the rolling Tuscan hills.

After sunset, head to Pasticceria Bini for a traditional Sienese desert. They have the best panforte in Siena (and possibly the world).

Where to Stay

La Bagnaia Golf and Spa Resort, Curio Collection by Hilton

Welcome to La Bagnaia Golf & Spa Resort Siena, Curio Collection by Hilton, charmingly set in the rolling countryside of Tuscany. Once a medieval village, the resort preserves its history and character across modern accommodations, a wellness spa and world-class golf course for a truly original stay. The townscape and Towers of Siena are within view, and it’s a short journey to San Gimignano, Montalcino, Monteriggioni Chiusdino, Murlo and treasured museums, vineyards and architecture – including San Galgano Abbey, home of the 'sword in the rock' story.

Guest rooms and suites at La Bagnaia Resort span various buildings and no two spaces are alike. Accommodations are located in two different villages, Borgo Bagnaia & Borgo Filetta, one in the main resort area, and the other one near Buddha Spa - set 1 Km away. Enjoy a 40-inch HDTV, cozy bathrobe and slippers, air-conditioning and complimentary WiFi. Deluxe and superior rooms offer more space, and suites feature a living area with sofa.

I loved everything about this resort. We had an incredible experience when visiting. It is located in the charming rolling hills of the Tuscany countryside and just ten minutes from Siena’s historic city center. Along with the beautiful surroundings, the Team Members are friendly and courteous and every detail of the building is well taken care of. The restaurants and bars on site are really great. Dinner at the hotel’s incredible La Voliera features fresh ingredients, a beautiful wine cellar and amazing views of Royal Golf La Bagnaia from the terrace.

One of the most beautiful aspects of the resort is the amazing Royal Golf La Bagnaia. It makes for an incredibly picturesque backdrop with beautiful greens, lakes and a unique clubhouse. The course has 18 holes that snake through the gorgeous Tuscan countryside. If you are a golf novice have no fear, it is even possible to take golf lessons on site.

The hotel also has an amazing and spacious spa, Buddha Spa by Clarins, with a thermal heated outdoor swimming pool and a variety of customized spa treatments that include everything from ayurvedic massages to hot stone. I enjoyed just relaxing in the pool and taking in the views and would suggest you do the same.

The best thing about Siena is the famous Palio di Siena, a horse race held twice each year, on July 2nd and August 16th. Ten horses and riders (who ride bareback) get dressed in appropriate colors that represent ten of the seventeen wards of the city. The pristine beauty and rolling hills – like you’ll experience on the grounds of La Bagnaia Gold & Spa Resort Siena – are also what makes Siena so wonderful.
